Power from wind and photovoltaic plants cover more than Schleswig-Holsteins’s electricity demand, if weather conditions are favourable. But we need to get renewable power into heating and mobility. Producing “green” hydrogen by water electrolysis is a way to transform renewable energy into a non-toxic, transportable gas.
Hydrogen can be used for storage, heating or as fuel in vehicles, trains and ships. Hydrogen is also a resource for the chemical industry and steel production. Schleswig-Holstein with its surplus of renewable electricity, a refinery with gas pipe infrastructure, chemical industry and harbours is a predestinated hydrogen hub.
EE.SH is engaged in the implementation of the Northern German Hydrogen Strategy (in German).
